Fighting Founders: Business "Marriage Counseling"

Fighting Founders: Business "Marriage Counseling"

Problem
Two founding partners had become successful, but didn’t agree on how to move forward, which had significant implications for the stability of the business and the prospects for growth.

Solution
First, I got everyone talking in a carefully moderated conflict-management framework. I worked with the leaders individually and jointly, always focusing on what was best for the business, using tactics like:
•    clarifying the strategic direction each leader had in mind and identifying where common ground might lie
•    working through roles and responsibilities for each leader
•    understanding how their conflict was impacting the staff and business and taking specific actions to ameliorate the negative impact

Result
One of the founding partners left the firm. The other one went on to have the best year in the firm’s history.
